Toyota bZ4X
The Toyota bZ4X is one of the most anticipated new models. The 2WD and AWD models have already arrived late last year, but the Touring model is slated to come out in May 2026. So far, the released 2026 bZ4X all-electric models have exceeded expectations with a price cut of $10,000 compared to previous iterations, significant powertrain upgrades, and even more features.
For those looking for an entry-level EV, the bZ4X 2WD offers up to 591km range, 165kW of power, roof rails, wireless charging, and more. It’s a good option for those looking for a compact, all-electric city car. If you’d like something with more kick, the AWD model has 252kW of power and has off-road capabilities, but it does come at a higher price range and comes only with a 517km range.
In addition to range and power upgrades, there are also marked improvements to the cabin. Inside, you’ll see a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless chargers, and heated front seats to add comfort and convenience to the driving experience. For longevity, Toyota provides a 10-year conditional battery warranty.
Tesla Model Y
For the longest time, the Tesla Model Y has been the go-to electric car. This mid-sized SUV has set the standard for other similar EVs that hit the market. The latest from Tesla is now available to order with deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2026. The Model Y (long-range AWD version) has a range of 600km and has an acceleration of 4.8 s 0-100 km/h.
According to Tesla, the latest Model Y model has a 22% reduction in road noise, making for a more comfortable ride. For added comfort and convenience, interiors have been updated with a rear 8-inch touchscreen for passengers, a 15.4-inch central display, and voice commands so you can control everything with ease. Navigation has also become easier with Trip Planner, which automatically routes you to the nearest Superchargers along your route.
It also has upgraded safety features like Lane Departure Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and advanced seatbelts and airbags. Other features include pop-open front storage, automatically adjustable front row seats, and feature cooling and heating.
A downside to the Model Y is its screen dependence with no head-up display. It also has a shorter warranty compared to other manufacturers, having only a five-year coverage.
BYD Seal
The BYD Seal is expected to arrive in Australia mid-2026. It’s one of the more affordable electric cars on the market while still offering premium quality. Its price range starts from $46,990, while premium and performance models are around $52,990 to $61,990 and above.
In terms of engineering, the BYD Seal uses Blade Battery technology and Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction, which integrates the battery into the vehicle structure. This offers improved strength and safety while giving a better driving experience.

MG4 EV
If you’re looking for a budget EV, the MG4 Excite is worth considering. This family hatchback is set to arrive in Australia in March 2026. Prices for the MG4 Excite start at $39,990.
It has all the modern looks and features you’d expect from an electric car, including a dedicated EV platform, 50:50 weight distribution, and responsive rear-wheel drive dynamics that make for a sharp and balanced driving experience. It also has an all-wheel-drive XPOWER for those who need something more powerful. The latest MG4 models are also equipped with a suite of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-keep assistant, and more.
Depending on the variant, the MG4 has up to 560km of claimed range and 10% to 80% DC charging. This could be an ideal EV for those who are on a budget but don’t want to skimp on certain features.
BMW iX
If you’re looking for a luxury electric car, the BMW iX model offers premium comfort, elegance, and great performance. It’s priced at around $142,900, excluding on-road costs, and is due to arrive in Australia mid-2026.
According to BMW, the latest iX model can offer over 600km of electric range on the WLTP cycle. It is also equipped with a new 94.8kWh battery. The claimed efficiency of this new model is 21.8kWh/100km and can be DC charged to 175kW with a charge time of only 34 minutes, going from a 10% to 80% charge.
The BMX iX cabin has luxury features including four- zone automatic climate control, 14.9-inch touchscreen, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, panoramic glass roof, and multifunctional electric front seats with heating and massaging functionality. The latest iX also doesn’t skimp on safety features with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, semi-autonomous parking, and many more.
