The past year hasn’t been a great one for car lovers as COVID-19-based supply issues have plagued the industry, but there is light on the horizon with some exciting new vehicles expected to arrive here in 2021.
Below, we list some of the most anticipated new models that are expected to make it to our shores in the coming year.
Genesis GV70
The Korean mid-size luxury SUV (pictured above) will be one of the most interesting releases of the year, as Hyundai works to build the credentials of its luxury brand. The appearance of the car is striking and list of high-tech features, including automatic lane changing with the flick of a switch, is long.
Toyota Kluger
The new seven-seater Toyota Kluger SUV will be offered in Australia with a choice of a petrol engine or – for the first time – a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine will be a 218kW 3.5-litre V6 shared with the Camry, while the hybrid combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with two electric motors.
Kia Sportage
The all-new Kia Sportage SUV will be one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its class when it arrives in Australia in 2021.
Advanced safety features will include a 10.2-inch digital dashboard with live video feeds of the SUV’s blind spots, along with highway driving assistance and potentially even an automatic parking function.
Hyundai Tucson
Due in the first half of 2021, the fourth generation of this popular mid-size SUV is an improvement over the previous version in almost every respect, as well as being a fair bit bigger.
The Tucson has a bold new exterior design inspired by the Vision T concept vehicle and includes hybrid and plug-in hybrid options which are already available overseas.
A performance-oriented N-Line flagship is also confirmed, probably with a 213kW 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Nissan Navara - Early 2021
The Nissan Navara dual-cab ute has been substantially redesigned with a tough new look and a big safety boost.
The new model will feature significant driver assist system upgrades including autonomous emergency braking that can monitor two vehicles ahead at the same time. It is expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2021.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L arriving this year will replace the previous ‘WK2’ version which is more than a decade old.
For the first time, the Grand Cherokee will offer seven seats and three rows, while technology in the cabin will also be greatly improved. In the US, six different powertrains will be available (including electric), but it is yet to be confirmed which options will come to Australia.
Volkswagen Golf
The new-generation Volkswagen Golf 8 was due to arrive here in 2020 but was delayed due to COVID-19 lockdowns and factory shutdowns in Germany.
On the upside, the new VW will probably launch with an almost complete model range, including many variants of both the hatch and the slightly larger wagon. The new VW will be the most technically-advanced model yet with a full suite of safety features across the entire range.
Isuzu MU-X
The second-generation Isuzu MU-X will benefit from many of the key improvements applied to the Isuzu D-Max ute.
The new model is expected to have the best safety in its class, with features including a centre airbag between the front seats (unique in the class), as well as radar cruise control, twin-camera autonomous emergency braking, blind zone warning, rear cross-traffic alert, speed sign recognition, and more.
